Exposición 2016, The Society of Botanical Artists

Con esta preciosa imagen titulada «A Passion for Peonies» de la artista botánica Billy Showell, introducimos la exposición anual de la The Society of Botanical Artists.

Este año la Sociedad nos convoca a una exposición en la que presentaremos trabajos basados en las FORMAS, los PATRONES de crecimiento y las ESTRUCTURAS internas de las plantas. Son tres de los aspectos fundamentales que los artistas botánicos tomamos como referencia al estudiar lo que vamos a dibujar.

La exposición tendrá lugar del 15 al 23 de Abril de 2016 (de 11h a 17h) en el Westminster Central Hall (junto a la Abadía). Las estaciones de metro más próximas son «St James» y «Westminster».

Como en otros años, esperamos una exposición con más de 600 obras seleccionadas por un jurado profesional, por lo que la calidad de las obras será excepcional.

Además, las demostraciones en la propia sala de los artistas especializados en distintas técnicas, nos permitirá conocer sus formas de trabajar y estar en contacto directo con ellos, pudiendo preguntarles por sus personales trucos, materiales y maneras de hacer.

Estamos seguros de que será una ocasión inolvidable.

 «Shape is where it begins; the beautiful shape of flowers both as single blooms but also in groups as bunches or in fields or on display. The full and delicious shape of ripened fruits and vegetables, which inspires chefs to cook and farmers to grow; and shape as a device in nature to attract and seduce us into collecting and studying plants. Pattern beguiles us, the glorious discovery by Fibonacci that number patterns are repeated through nature and connect us numerically with the plant world; together with the incredulous structure of a Romanesco broccoli or the savoy cabbage, both may explain our fascination to understand and celebrate though art such supreme design. The structure of plants has been a fascination since the first century BC but Robert Hook first discovered the cell in 1665 with the invention of a microscope which had sufficient magnification. Since then the discoveries have been tumbling forth and illustrators through the ages have been called upon to draw through the lens».
